VOLUNTEERS

We are always looking for people that have a genuine concern for the well being of our community and the students that we serve. Below is a list of the volunteer opportunities that are available. If you are interested in applying fill out the Volunteer Application. Please be advised that all volunteers are required to complete a PA Criminal Background Check and Child Abuse Clearance.

After School Tutors

Description: All of our at-risk youth are in need of tutors to help them reach their academic goals. Tutors will help assist each student in their areas of difficulties by helping with homework, providing learning strategies, and mentorship. All sessions will be 2 hours per tutor.

Requirements:

High School Students Requirements:

· Must be at least a high school junior with a minimum GPA of 3.0.

· No suspensions or disciplinary infractions.

· Must maintain a B average in subject of speciality.

College Student Requirements:

· Must have completed 30+ credits and must be a Sophomore or Higher.

· Must have a GPA average of 2.75 or greater.

Student Teachers

Description: The role of a student teachers is to introduce learning content through activities, assignments, materials, resources, structures, and pacing to a small group of students while implementing proper questioning and discussion techniques that will promote student participation and learning. This will be accomplished by mock lesson plans that is developed for STEM and ELA for middle and high school students.

Requirements

· Must be a college student pursuing an education degree for middle grade or secondary education and is at least in their junior year of college or junior/senior seeking an internship.

· Must have a minimum GPA of 3.0.

· Must have completed at least 65+ credits.

· Must be currently enrolled in a college or university.

Volunteer GED Instructor

Description: The GED teacher is responsible for a multilevel class of adult learners. They will be responsible for instructing a small group of at most 6 learners in reading, writing, and mathematical content knowledge to improve basic skills and or prepare for a GED credential.

Requirements:

· Must have a bachelor’s degree in education.

· At least 1 year experience in adult basic education, GED instruction, or developmental classes.

· Preferred PA teacher certification and classroom teaching experience.

· Must be able to assess and provide feedback to student’s progress and preparedness level for GED exam.

· Must be able to devote 8-16 weeks of instructions.

Volunteer Financial Literacy

Description: Workshops that will introduce families to the ends and outs of the financial aspects of life. This will cover but not limited to banking accounts, investments, mortgages, stocks, bonds, and financial planning.

Requirements;

· Must be in financial services with at least 2-year experience.

· Must be able to provide consultation and legitimate financial recommendations.

· Must have at least a high school diploma.

· Must be knowledgeable in establishing good credit, opening various types of accounts, and methods to start investments.

Volunteer CPR Instructor

Description: CPR instructor teach life saving skills are certified by the Red Cross or The American Heart Association. You will work independently teaching the techniques of CPR and other first aid to groups of at most 6-8 students while maintaining the necessary training credentials.

Requirements:

· Must be CPR certified as an instructor by the AHA or Red Cross in one or more of the following: BLS (Basic Life Support), ACLS (Advance Cardio Life Support), PALS (Pediatric Advance Life Support), and PEARS (Pediatric, Emergency Assessment, Recognition and Stabilization).

· Must be at least 21 years or older.

· Must have experience in use of CPR and AED (Automated External Defibrillator).

Volunteer Cosmetic/Hair

Description: Lead workshops in various beauty art.

Requirements:

· Must know how to apply makeup and show different application techniques.

· Must be able to demonstrate installation of different hairstyles including but not limited to braids and weaves.

· Must be at least 16 years of age and patient.

Volunteer Support Staff

Description: Helps to provide support to students and staff during afterschool program, testing prep, and other various activities when needed.

Requirements:

· Must be at least 16 years of age.

· Must be flexible and ready to serve.
